About
My name is Renuka
After 23 years of working in education I decided to bow out from a much-loved career to follow my dream. This was to be the next chapter in my life
My sister sent me a clip of Asma Khan on Chef’s Table. This clip urged me a step towards not only admiring Asma’s courage but to do the same as my idol.
The Covid situation in 2019 and its impact on our lives did waver my dreams a bit but encouragement from my husband and my daughter led me to pursue the new venture of opening a restaurant.
I have only one goal in sight: to serve with honesty, quality, and love.
sé Anār – is a homage to my Indian roots: a combination of the valiant heritage of Jodhpur, (The Blue City) and the subliminal resilience of Kolkata, Satyajit Ray’s ‘City of Joy’.
My passions through adult life have been Education & Food and my deep desire to share these with my community.
Through this labour of love, I’m keen to bring to the ‘table’ the concept of ‘sobremesa’…. conversations and adda (leisure chats) around the table. I simply love the idea of bringing friends together over ‘nashta’ (snacking) to chat and discuss and debate and reminisce. This is perhaps due to my wistful longing for Kolkata’s ‘College Street’ vibe… masala chai and singhara (Bengali samosa) along with Hemant Kumar’s dreamy poetry; which reminds me of my university days.
It’s called  sé Anār which literally translates as A for Anar. Anar is Pomegranate in Hindi. Pomegranate is mythically synonymous with progress, beauty, luxury and ambition.
sé Anār promises to deliver diverse Indian flavours with a Continental synthesis, along with unparalleled mehmaan nawazi (hospitality) of India that we pride ourselves.
I hope you enjoy this journey with me, through my food, my experiment with food and the food stories we will share through this journey.
Let’s create memories…
